A Guide to Tools

Having a healthy and beautiful lawn is a goal of all homeowners, and most people mistakenly think that professionals are needed in order for this goal to be accomplished. This of course is completely untrue, and you can absolutely maintain a gorgeous looking lawn, as long as you have the proper tools and equipment to do so.

There are many different tools that you can purchase although there is a few in particular which are considered as being absolutely essential in order to have a healthy and beautiful lawn. The most important tools are: aerators, lawnmowers, shears, and rakes.

Aerators

Aerators are crucial tools are important because it is these which work by creating holes or cavities in the surface of the lawn, thus allowing the soil to be able to move and shift more freely. So not only does aerification allow the nutrients and water to be able to reach the roots better, but as well it allows oxygen levels in the soil to increase, thereby helping the roots to grow.

Lawnmowers

Lawnmowers can easily be considered as the most common and well known tools, and even if you have nothing else, it is really important to have a lawnmower. Lawnmowers are used to trim the blades of the grass, and this helps to get rid of the dead grass and top and let the new, healthier grass come in from underneath.

Shears

Shears are another of the most important tools, and they are basically used to crop the grass, more particularly the hedges. You can use lawn shears to create designs out of your hedges or to simply keep them cropped down to a reasonable size.

Rakes

Rakes are a simpler type of lawn tool however they are just as important as any other. You want to make sure that you keep any large items or even smaller ones such as leaves off of your lawn, as they will cover up the grass and keep sunlight and water from getting through, thus causing it to turn yellow and eventually die.

You can generally find all of these and other tools for your lawn at your local home improvement or home hardware store, and by incorporating the proper tools into your regular lawn maintenance process, you will be able to have an absolutely healthy and beautiful lawn, and the best part of all is that you can do it all on your own.
